Hosted weekend badminton tournament

This past weekend we hosted a small badminton tournament with 14 doubles teams from the University of Illinois-Champaign, Missouri Badminton Club, University of Kansas, and University of Missouri-Kansas City. Using the 21-point scoring system and modified feed-in consolation draws, we completed 23 matches in four hours once we got started. Only five matches went three games, but several others were quite close. MoBC (including Teri) went 8-3 in matches vs. UIUC and 3-1 in matches vs. KS. UIUC went 2-1 vs. KS and the rest of the matches were between two teams from the same club.

Jeffrey, back from a long layoff during which he added a few pounds, was still the dominant individual player on the court. He teamed with XiaoMing from MoBC to win the A-level draw over Keng and Tiffanie from Illinois 21-18, 21-19 in the final. Ding Feng and Yun Di from Illinois came in 3rd. Hull and Rohit from MoBC won the consolation draw and Jim and Xindi from MoBC won the B-draw over Arpi and Tee from Kansas. We were excited to see new quality players, such as Chun-Ho Wong from Illinois and Arjuna from Kansas.

Most of our guests joined our regular Sunday morning practice session for some additional play and I believe that everyone enjoyed themselves. We look forward to hosting a similar event in the spring with perhaps four or five more teams. Our next tournament will be in Madison on December 8th and 9th where we will once again attempt to do live blogging from the gym.

We have two pdf files with a total of 28 pictures from the event. If you would like to see these, please leave a comment or email me directly.
