Ocean’s Thirteen on DVD

Ocean’s Thirteen on DVD. George, Brad, Matt and the boys are back in Las Vegas in another revenge/casino heist caper even more complex than the previous ones. It seems like they’re trying to rig every game in the place, craps, roulette, blackjack, and slots, at least for three minutes and thirty seconds. The deserving villain is played by Al Pacino, who knows how to play villains (though prior bad guy Andy Garcia is also involved). Pacino double-crosses Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould) out of his share of the newest and fanciest spot on the strip, so the boys make sure that a guy “who has shaken Sinatra’s hand” learns his lesson. The story lacks some of the intricate timing and acrobatic stunts of the first one and I personally think Ellen Barkin is a Holiday Inn compared to Julia Roberts’ Bellagio. However, the exterior shots of Vegas are great, as usual, and the interior set for the fictional Bank casino is fabulous, as producer Jerry Weintraub showcases in an all-too-short featurette. Dedicated movie trivia buffs will appreciate the several connections and tributes to the Godfather series.
