Life is Sweet

Life is Sweet by Addie Johnson. Given that this blog has its roots in thoughts about happiness, reading about Johnson’s ideas on the subject should have been quite natural. The author believes that any object or activity that brings more happiness and peace into a person’s life is a positive. Therefore, she has created a collection of 333 memories, stories, quotes and other ideas for readers to consider adding to their life experiences. The book is divided into several general areas: love and generosity, interacting with other people, kids and animals, health, laughter, creativity, simplicity, and goal-setting. With books of this nature, it is quite easy to become preachy in tone, but Johnson avoids that pothole for the most part, with the exception of the last chapter on goals. I would recommend consuming this book like a box of candy (make mine all dark chocolates with caramel centers please): take a small sample each day and savor it on multiple levels by letting your mind drift into happy thoughts or memories of your own as you’re enjoying the immediate experience itself.
